GE Healthcare Donates Additional $1 Million in Ultrasound and Monitoring Equipment to Support Ukraine
GE Healthcare announced a $1 million donation of life-saving ultrasound and monitoring equipment to Ukraine as the ongoing war continues to take a heavy toll on the country’s healthcare system. The company will be donating patient monitors, to monitor adult and pediatric patient vital signs at the bedside in the general ward and intensive care units, and handheld and stationary ultrasound devices for various clinical uses, such as emergency care, obstetrics, and gynecology, both inside and outside of the hospital.
“Given our access to life-saving medical equipment, and our global reach, we have a responsibility to help patients when they need it most. We do not want a lack of equipment standing in the way at any time, especially during a time of conflict. We hope that this donation will help bridge the gap,” said Rob Walton, President and CEO of GE Healthcare for Europe, Middle East, and Africa. “We sympathize with the people of Ukraine, the health professionals who are working hard to save lives, and the patients in need of care in these very difficult circumstances.”
This $1 million equipment donation is in addition to the $4 million equipment donation made in March 2022 and the GE Foundation donation of $500,000 to the International Rescue Committee (IRC) and Airlink to provide immediate and long-term relief to neighboring countries that are welcoming refugees from Ukraine. In addition, GE employees can support relief efforts through the GE Foundation Matching Gifts Program, and have worked to support Ukrainian refugees throughout this year.
Under an intensive six-month Ukraine Refugee Support Program, GE also offered cost reimbursements and paid time-off to employees who opened their homes to refugees and helped provide necessities such as food, medicine, and clothing. Approximately 360 GE employees made use of the program, amounting to more than $300,000 in reimbursements; this includes around 100 GE Healthcare employees amounting to approximately $90,000 in reimbursements.
