Commercial banks are an integral component of Benin’s financial sector, providing essential services to individuals, businesses and the government. The Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) regulates and supervises Benin’s monetary system – including commercial banking operations – while lending money directly to entrepreneurs and government institutions alike.

Benin currently has several major commercial banks, such as Ecobank, Orabank, Bank of Africa (BOA), Societe Generale and Atlantic Business International (ABI).
